Life is Short Eat Dessert First!
Ice cream is one of my favorite dessert items, I could eat it every day but I enjoy it most when surrounded by family and friends. Often it is in the sharing of dessert that some of the best stories of life are shared. I can remember attending an ice cream social in high school with the School Sisters of Notre Dame and being amazed at how happy and free-spirited the sisters were, we laughed for hours as we enjoyed our treats.
Over the Summer months various campuses will host Old Fashioned Ice Cream Socials compete with music, activities for families, open houses, conversations, laughter, and of course ICE CREAM! I have found the ice cream socials a great way to interact with the School Sisters. Individuals young and old get to see the sisters laughing and reuniting with former students, families and friends. Watch http://ww.ssnd.org/events and http://facebook.com/ssnd.northamerica for dates and times in your area.
Have you had a similar opportunity to share with a religious? What was the experience like?

On Saturday May 9th the School Sisters of Notre Dame will celebrate the Feast of Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger, Foundress of the the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
On May 9, 1879, Mother Theresa
followed the last call of God in her earthly life and went home in the peace of
the Lord to her final mission, which she herself described as “eternally to
adore and love, eternally to rejoice in the glory of God and of his saints.”

Meet (Some) Sisters Monday
For this week's edition of Meet-A-Sister Monday I'd like to introduce you to not one sister, but a community of them! Vocation team member Sister Mary Swanson, SSND has been working with the vocation ministers of other communities in the upper mid-west during the Year of Consecrated Life. One of these communities, the Benedictine sisters of St. Martin Monastery in Rapid City, SD recently shared with her this video about themselves. I thought that you might find it interesting to have a glimpse into their history and their present lives.
After watching the video, was there anything that jumped out at you - maybe something that you found surprising, interesting, or inspiring? What questions about religious life did it raise for you?
